Course Description
Students will trace the history of Gothic literature starting with Horace Walpole's novel The Castle or Otranto. Significant attention will be given to the influence of the Gothic novel in writing throughout the Romantic and Victorian ages and Modern literature. In addition to literature, students will also explore Gothic influences on architecture, art, film, and popular culture. Prerequisite: ENG 1530. J fall, spring; C fall, spring.
