Angels & Demons: Bible as Lit

Course Description

"Bible" comes from the Greek ta biblia - literally "the books" - and within those pages lie some of the most influential and revolutionary literary texts in recorded history. In this course, students will begin by asking what "The Bible" means in relation to the literary canon; this includes examining the works that shaped its creation and the literary choices that followed the first printed biblical publication. Along the way, students will encounter works that stand beside and against it from classic texts to modern works of art across history. Prerequisite: ENG 1530. J occasionally; C occasionally.
