Course Description
Students will explore occupational therapy principles and interventions that foster autonomy, functional skills, and psychosocial well-being in children from infancy through adolescence. Students will examine the impact of disabilities on early life roles, such as play, family participation, and social interactions, as well as later roles in school, peer groups, and community settings. Emphasizing a developmental approach, the course covers assessments and interventions tailored to evolving motor, sensory, cognitive, and emotional needs. Through hands-on experiences, students will develop and implement occupation-based strategies to support self-care, academic participation, and social engagement. Additionally, students will explore the integration of high- and low-technology solutions to enhance skill acquisition and independence in daily activities. A strong focus will be placed on structuring individualized and group interventions that promote holistic growth, self-reliance, and meaningful participation across home, school, and community environments.
