OT Princ. & Skills: Adulthood

Course Description

Students will develop practical skills and clinical reasoning essential for providing occupational therapy interventions to adults across the lifespan, from early adulthood through aging. This course emphasizes assessment, planning, and implementation of occupational therapy strategies that promote functional independence, well-being, and quality of life with the adulthood and aging population. Students will examine the impact of psychosocial, physical, sensory, and cognitive changes on occupational engagement and daily activities. Through hands-on training, case studies, and competency-based learning, they will learn to adapt environments, modify activities, and address age-related challenges affecting self-care, work, leisure, and social participation. Emphasis will be placed on applying theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios, ensuring students can effectively support individuals, groups, and populations experiencing age-related transitions, chronic conditions, and/or disabilities. By the end of the course, students will be prepared to enhance occupational performance, foster independence, and optimize well-being in adulthood and aging populations. Prerequisite: Completion of all semester 2 courses with a grade of C or better. J fall.
