PN Medical-Surgical Nursing

Course Description

Students will apply critical thinking and the nursing process to understand fundamental disease processes and the LPN’s role in preventing illness, treating disease, and restoring health in adult patients. Throughout the course, concepts related to safety, emotional support, communication, client teaching, and pharmacology will be integrated. The nursing laboratory will be used to enhance students' psychomotor and critical thinking skills, allowing them to practice advanced nursing techniques. Clinical experiences in medical-surgical units and specialty units of acute care hospitals and clinics will provide students with the opportunity to apply theory and lab knowledge in real-world settings. Open to practical Nursing Majors only. Prerequisite LPN 1110 and LPN 1120. Pre/Co-requisites BIO 2520 or HCR 2100, MAT 1540, PSY 2510, LPN 1130. J. spring, summer, fall.
