Program Description

Upon completion of the Occupational Therapy Assistant program, graduates earning an associate degree will be prepared to support individuals, groups, and populations in engaging in meaningful activities that promote health, well-being, and daily function. In traditional settings, Occupational Therapy Assistants work under the supervision of registered occupational therapists, delivering client-centered care that enhances independence, adapts environments, and fosters participation in everyday life. Additionally, graduates are well-qualified to pursue opportunities in non-traditional practice areas. The program integrates biological, psychological, and social sciences with professional coursework, emphasizing human development, the impact of injury and illness on daily occupations, and strategies for restoring and enhancing function. Students gain hands-on experience in assessing occupational performance, setting client goals, implementing evidence-based interventions, and documenting therapy outcomes. With a strong focus on collaboration, adaptability, and holistic care, graduates will be equipped to work with individuals across the lifespan, helping them achieve their highest level of independence. Some program courses will require in-person attendance on the Jamestown Campus.
